Spend a day with Lynne from POP Gardens who will take you on a journey into the fascinating world of therapeutic gardening based on her experience working in hospitals as an occupational therapist. The creative and interactive course inspires and guides you through connecting with some of our favourite flowers and precious vegetables. On this journey, you will also learn why and how the cultural and artistic elements of gardening can be transformative to health.

It has been employed as a therapeutic occupation for decades in the UK and around the world as an ally to traditional medicine.

Course Itinerary:


  • 10.00: Meet POP Gardens owner, Occupational Therapist Lynne
  • 10-15–11.15: Introduction to why and how gardening and its related activities can become therapeutic.
  • A brief history of therapeutic horticulture in UK hospitals
  • Practical and fun activities to help you connect with plants
  • 11.15-13.00: Practical demonstrations including seed sowing and activities related to some of our favourite seasonal flowers and vegetables. Delegates will sow seeds and learn about germination. Includes a 10-minute coffee break
  • 13.00-14.00: Lunch break
  • 14.00–15.30: 
  • Seed-saving practical demonstrations and hands-on activities
  • Wellbeing in the Autumn garden 
  • 15.30-16.00: Q and A and take-home tips
  • 16.00: Course close
